This webpage is actually a lesson from a U.S. Naval Academy course on shipwrecks, with a focus on the Bonhomme Richard. (There was actually a search for find her, but I don’t think they ever did find her.)
There are lovely maps and diagrams on this page which explain the battle in detail.
Also, if you go back to the syllabus, you can find links to other lessons, which explain 18th century log books and navigation, so if you like naval history it’ll be fun to look at this. (Or you can go to the course homepage, where you can actually download Jone’s log book from the Serapis, which is pretty cool. Unfortunately the log book of the Bonhomme Richard doesn’t cover the battle, and the original manuscript was lost in a fire, which is quite sad.)
